The main reason of steppisation in Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) is the specific location – the area between oceanic and continental climates characterized by a small amount of precipitation (even less than 500 mm a year, the country’s average of 600 mm), while high evaporation (the difference between rainfall and run-off, on average 400-450 mm per year). It’s also affected by high permeability of the soil in the central part of the Warta River bed.

The other reason of steppisation is decreasing area of forests in the last century due to agricultural needs. As a result of new field division a lot of ponds and swamps surrounded by green oasis disappeared. In addition Warta river due to the inland navigation has been drastically regulated – (straightened) – which shortened the river bed over 100 km – this means that water flows faster through the land and the hydration is smaller. This tendency has quickly lead to lowering of ground water level so important for water circulation in nature.

In terms of wind energy resources Wielkopolska is classified as “very good” due to high average wind speed and good topographical conditions – mainly flatlands.

During the day, when there is a high electricity demand, GESTERBINE looks like typical power plant supplying average households, farms, small offices etc. During the night, when the demand for electricity is rather low, GESTERBINE works as a self-sufficient water pump which transports river water into the land. This water if further used to support or even create small retention water reservoirs across the land. This action should go along with planting new trees to keep the surface water as long as possible within the land in order to raise ground water mirror.

Human energy into energy for humanity. The form is an effect of experiments on human gesture kinetics. The idea is to transpose human body kinetic energy into vectors. These vectors are used afterwards to build an energy producing skyscraper. Chosen method of human gesture research: human body tangled in LED lights and camera set on long exposure in the darkroom and experiments in 3D using cardboard models out of vectorized photos.

Imagine a lamp with no beginning or end…

Inspired by the infinity symbol Lamp N°1 is basically a ribbon-shaped lamp without a formal beginning, end or lampshade.

To keep the source of light undefined stripes of LED lights are attached to the inner part of the ribbon, which makes them hard to spot when the light is switched off.

Number of Led lights as well as their position is defined by the customer.

Lamp N°1 can be made out of stainless steel or bent plywood.

Given a huge, industrial and raw interior of Old Printing House in Poznań, the main idea was to lower the ceiling to create an intimate and animated atmosphere above the dance floor and a blank canvas for VJs at the same time.

As active members of TAKEME magazine (www.take-me.pl) editorial staff, mode:lina in cooperation with LOWBUDGET (www.lowbudget.pl) and Dawid R. Kwiatkowski (creatures.blog.pl) will be responsible for Stara Druakrnia (Old Printing House) space during SHOWME02 event. Stay tuned!

Project established in cooperation with Pracownia Architektoniczna Poznań-Projekt. 13-floor housing complex on os. Przyjaźni 20A in Poznań. The plot is surrounded by housing  blocks from the 70’s. The challenge was to fulfill the requirements and follow the character of  the area (sic!).

The concept is based on braking the block and combining dwelling structure with commercial part.

The buinding consists of 96 apartments ranging in size from 38m2 to 68m2 and 114 parking places. Investor is PSM Winogrady and the tender is PEKABUD Morasko. Completion of the investment planned for 31 March 2011.

Resort „Sunset Paradise„ is situated on the west coast of Zanzibar ½ hr drive from Stone Town Airport. The size and shape of the plot make it the perfect location for an exclusive holiday resort.

There are several sandy paths that lead down to the sea – whether the tide is high or low, giving perfect conditions for bathing. The entire bay is free of rocks and sea urchins and the water is clear. On the north side of the plot there is a river, providing an additional atraction.

Resort facilities:

• AREA PROPERTY 12,1 ha

• MAIN ENTRANCE 10,0 m2

• RECEPTION, LOBBY, SHOPS ca. 90,0 m2 + hall 100m2

• LODGES 15-16 all (multi- roomed Villas) 100,0-145,0 m2 each

Designed as a traditional African house, luxuriously appointed.

Each 15 lodges are discretely scattered along the beach and cliff line, each with panoramic views of the clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, ensuring maximum privacy and seclusion.

Designed and positioned to make them feel like a part of the surrounding landscape, the lodges are bulit from local traditional materials and topped with thatched (makuti) roofs, allowing the invigorating sea breeze to circulate and affording a cool atmosphere day and night.

Large private wooden verandas give an impression of living outdoors.

Project established in cooperation with architect Zbigniew Pyda and graphic designer Zbigniew Flakus.

A project of Audiochmura (Audiocloud) was inspired by the concept of Audioarchitektura (Sonicarchitecture) – brainchild of artist Piotr Adamski (www.p-a-r-k.pl adamski / brzuzan) and mode:lina. It is a sonic installation using corrugated pipes as amplifiers emitting sounds gathered around its actual position. The shape of a cloud relates to something ephemeral, almost non-existent and likely to move.

Audioarchitektura (Sonicarchitecture) is a utopian vision of a city that cannot be heard. An innovative system of sound emission, which isolates people from the unbearable audiosphere of crowded streets, traffic and all the noise that unnaturally has become an inseparable part of our life.

Invisible Sonic-buildings, spread along the sidewalks, in parks and boulevards, emitting sound waves that drown out the city noise. Passer-by walking in their range are surrounded by the sound of hypnotic composition of Steve Reich’s concert, broadcasted live from the concert hall or a melody of raindrops falling on the tin roofs of urban buildings. Today this is a utopian technology, but Sonic Architecture is also a basis for discussion on acoustic ecology, city’s acoustic landscape and its impact on the inhabitants.

That day, when the cloudy sky overwhelmed the Theatre Bridge, Em turned right into Independence Avenue. Unbearable pain penetrated his temple, when a driver of hurtling ambulance used a siren to hasten sleepy drivers standing in the traffic jam. Em paused for a moment. He pulled out his sonic-architectural city map, located his destination and considered returning to a Audio-Tunnel by the Roosevelt’s Street, to continue his walk in a blissful aura of the concert. He carefully folded up the map and looked around, just like a usual wanderer, whose journey has just begun and he is now to decide which direction to go.

Park was covered in mystical fog. Taking advantage of the intimacy offered by the aura, some youngster freaked out by the inactive at this point of year fountain. En walked along the park alley and after a while he accidently walked into experimental Sonic-building. He couldn’t find it in the November edition of a map he had. Now he enjoyed the rustle of thousands of splashing drops, incessantly launched in the air by a pump that feeds the fountain in the summer. Em considered using Sonic Architecture in designing the landscapes of sound spots and creating audio simulations for them to be a great educational strategy. At the same time, Victoria, who was connected to Em on rather vague basis, spent her time in other Sonic-Building, where while waiting on a tram, she listened to the sound of destruction of Baltic Cinema, emitted on an mild volume, together with constant mixing, extending or cutting its parts. Em looked at the youngster with the unuttered approval and set off. He reminded himself of the heading, from today’s newspaper, posted by HR department of a Fundation: Therefore I announce the competition for a post of the administrator of the Sonic-Building placed by The Freedom Square. Singles, music lovers, with inborn sound sensitivity and an idea for the programme for the Sonic-building are welcome. He even considered his candidacy for the post. When several years ago a visionary sound project was designed, he instantly became a great fan of it. Some time later, creators of Sonic-Architecture gained funds for development of sound emission technologies, to make it efficient on the big scale of city’s space, making creation of more and more Sonic-Buildings possible. Today, the Foundation, created to develop the project, struggles to fight the herd of hungry sharks, using their cunning strategies to transform sonic-building into a powerful medium of commercials, unnecessary information and mainstream music. Currently the Foundation finance the project of funds of independent sponsors. Buried in his thoughts, aware of the fact that by thoughts he can translocate better than with teleportation and his own shoes, he almost reached his destination.
